We woke up today in Savannah and checked out of our hotel around noon. We were starving so we went into downtown Savannah for a quick bite to eat before hitting the road.



Karen had been craving Sweet Melissa's Pizza again so we stopped in for a slice. After lunch we hit the road for a 2 hour drive north to Charleston. I think mapquest sent us the back way because we got off I-95 and passed thru some pretty small towns. It was really cool though to see the small town country living.



We arrived in Charleston around 3 and checked into the Best Western hotel right in downtown. Our room is on the 7th floor! The view is pretty good from our balcony. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=8ym The room was smaller but still very nice and the king size bed was nice. It looked like it was recently remodeled.



We unloaded everything and hit downtown. The main tourist area has tons of high-end shops. Karen was in heaven. We walked around for a good 3 hours, looking at the stores and taking photographs along the way. We also visited the city pier which was really nice. We sat in a swinging chair on the pier and Karen ate her candy apple. Along the way we saw a light pole with all these funny colored things on them. It turned out to be chewing gum that people have stuck on the pole over the years. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=8Nm



For dinner we ate at Tsunami Sushi, which had really good food. Karen got the red dragon roll and the crunchy charleston roll. Karen says both were amazing. I had the chicken terryaki which was also very good. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=90n



After dinner we walked around for about 30 minutes and then headed back to the car. We are going to try to get to bed a little earlier tonight so we can get an early start.

So let me get everyone caught up to speed on our trip so far. We started this blog while on vacation so I am going to post day 1-5 in one posting, but normally I will probably post it day by day to make it easier to read.

We took the Old Towne Trolley Tours around Savannah so we could see all the different things to do and get a feel for the city. The city is amazing. The buildings are really old, but restored. The city is laid out around 21 different squares, which is basically a really nice park in the center of a neighborhood. The streets are all lined with trees that hang over the roadway.

I ate lunch at Sweet Melissa's pizza and Karen ended up eating half of my slice. It's ok though because one slice is about the size of three at Sweet Melissa's. After lunch we stopped by the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department where I was able to get a police patch for my collection! For dinner we ate at Firefly Cafe which was amazing! I ordered the London broil and Karen got Mac & Cheese. We both loved the others dinner so we ended up switching.

After dinner we did the Ghost & Gravestone Tour, which stopped at the cemetery and a haunted house. It was pretty cool because a team from a ghost hunting TV show was there filming and doing a study. After dinner we stopped into Wet Willie's for a frozen drink and hung out for about 30 minutes.

Day 3

Started out the day by touring the Davenport House and the Owen-Thomas house. They were really old and nice. Then walked down to Forsyth Park where we saw a really nice fountain. http://twitpic.com/3me3w We walked over to see Temple Mickve Israel and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

It was near dinner time so we walked all the way down to River Street and ate dinner at the Cotton Exchange Tavern. http://twitpic.com/3n3x0 I ate the best hamburger ever there. After dinner we got dessert at the Candy Kitchen where Karen got her first candy apple of the trip.

Later that evening we went back to the hotel, ordered pizza, and played cards. http://twitpic.com/3n4lz

Day 4

Woke up and ate at an Italian pub called Tapas by Anna. I got the chicken parm and Karen ordered the blackened chicken wrap. Again, our food was sooooo good. We then went and visited Fort Pulaski. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=5tQ Fort Pulaski is 160 years old and was built to protect Savannah from enemy countries. It was never attacked by them. During the civil war the fort was taken over by the Union during the civil war. This is the only war the fort was involved in.

That’s because the power went out for about 30 minutes because of a storm. Luckily I had already eaten my ok dinner buffet and was on dessert. If you ask me, my $6.00 Hometown Buffet is just as good or better.

After our adventurous dinner we went to Wet Willie’s again and at midnight the dj had the entire bar sing Karen Happy Birthday!

Day 5 Karen’s Birthday!!!

We wake up so late in the day that we just go straight to lunch. Today I took Karen to Corleone’s Italian and we shared baked ziti and chicken parm. Then we walked off lunch and went down to the Savannah History Museum. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=6YD It was ok but not as good as our next stop. The Roundhouse Railroad Museum Central Georgia Repair Shop. This is where all the trains were fixed wayyyy back in the day. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=757 I took tons of pictures here for my dad (he loves trains).

For Karen’s special birthday dinner we went to The Olde Pink House. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=7l7 Karen looked beautiful and so did the restaurant. We both ordered filet mignon which was by far the best steak I have ever had. Otis, our waiter sang happy birthday to Karen and brought her a special dessert. http://mypict.me/show.php?id=7uQ After dinner we went to Churchill’s pub where we saw our waiter, Otis there. He bought us drinks and hung out with us for the night. He was really a nice guy. He then took us a few doors down to the Bay Street Blues where they had a trivia game going on. We played for a bit and then called it a night. I think Karen had a pretty great birthday, but, you will have to ask her.
